Language Arts/Reading Homework and Classwork
Your child will have Language Arts and Math homework each night. Language Arts homework will be sent home each Monday. Homework is due on Fridays. It does count for 10% of the final grade, so it is important that homework is completed each night.
There will also be a list of Spelling Words and Sight Words in your child’s homework folder. These words will go along with the unit being studied. In first grade we will take Spelling tests, however there will not be a spelling grade on the report card until after Winter Break. I will also send home a list of the reading and Language Arts skills that are being covered during each six week grading period, so you can help your child at home.
The reading grade will be comprised of different tests that we get from our Scott Foresman Reading series. They include a weekly selection test ( on the story being read that week), a comprehension test, and a phonics test. The students will also take a unit test each grading period that is cumulative.
The students will receive a letter grade of E,S,N, or U in Composition and Grammar.
