I would like to start our Mystery Readers program next week. Mystery Readers are visitors who come to our class on Wednesdays at 12:00 to read a picture book to our class. Mystery Readers are to send in 5 clues (ahead of time) that give us a hint about who they are. We would like to start next Wednesday. If you are interested in signing up, send me a note or an email. Thank You!

Sorry for the delay in updates of our blog. I have been having password issues with edublogs.
We have been busy in Language Arts over the last 2 weeks. I am really proud of all the progress the students are making. We have studied, short i, short o, and inflected endings -s and -ing. We have also learned about character, setting, realism vs. fantasy, and main idea.
This week we will be learning about words with the short e sound, and some initial blends ( gr-, gl-, sl-). We will also practice telling the difference between real and make believe stories. Our story is Get the Egg and it should be read each night because it helps build fluency. These are our reading words this week: saw small tree your
Our spelling words will have the short e sound this week.
Here are some pictures of the afternoon class working hard in literacy stations.

Welcome back after the long weekend. I hope everyone had a nice Labor Day holiday! We are in week 4 of the first six weeks. Progress reports went home today and should be reviewed and signed. Please remember to return all graded papers to school. I am required to keep them at school. I do not mind if you want to keep them for an extra night so you can review them with your child.
Our Open House will be next Tuesday night from five to seven. This is a chance to come in and see what your child has been working on at school. You will also get to meet some of our fantastic support teachers as well. This is really not a time for a conference- I am going to be really busy meeting lots of parents- but I will be happy to answer any questions that you have. I added a new page with my conference times. Please also remember to join P.I.E.. This is our parent association that does many wonderful things for our school.
Homework looked fantastic this week! Thanks for all the hard work at home. I was also really impressed with how well the students performed on the Spelling test. We are going to be working on words with short i this week, and words with a final x. Our comprehension skill is realism vs. fantasy. This is a fun one to practice at home. When you are reading a story at home, ask your child if it is real or make believe, and have them tell you the different parts of the story that could be real or make believe. In grammar we are working on the naming parts of sentences, and in composition we will continue to work on writing good, strong sentences.
